Presentation of Ryzen 7000 processors and motherboards with Socket AM5 will be held on September 15

MSI indirectly confirmed through the Chinese social platform Weibo that the official presentation of the AMD Ryzen 7000 processors on the Zen 4 architecture, as well as motherboards designed for them with Socket AM5 processor socket, will be held on September 15.

AMD itself has also previously promised that it will introduce next-generation desktop processors by the end of September. However, MSI revealed the actual date for the first time.

The Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) chips will replace the well-established Ryzen 5000 models. The Ryzen 7000 release will be one of the most important premieres of this year. AMD has been supporting the current Socket AM4 platform for five years. The manufacturer refreshed it every year with new models of processors and chipsets for motherboards. However, it's time for more dramatic changes. Ryzen 7000 will not only get the new Zen 4 architecture, but will also require the use of a new CPU socket.

The Zen 4 architecture promises many benefits for the new Ryzen platform, including a 15 percent increase in single-threaded performance and 35 percent higher overall performance, including multithreading. The increase in IPC (number of instructions executed per clock) with Zen 4 compared to Zen 3 is not expected to be as significant, at 8-10%. But AMD wants to compensate for this by a significant increase in maximum frequency of the new processors. If earlier leaks are to be believed, the Ryzen 7000 will run at around 5GHz for all cores, with peak (for multiple cores) up to 5.5GHz.

Raphael processors for the first time for Ryzen series will get support for AVX-512 instructions. In addition, all models of the new series will be equipped with integrated graphics on RDNA 2 architecture. The company divided previous generations of Ryzen processors into ordinary (CPU) and hybrid (APU). Only the latter were equipped with integrated graphics, but at the cost of reducing the size of L3 cache memory. The Ryzen 7000 models will not have these sacrifices. Processors of the new generation will get both a large cache size and integrated graphics.

For the first time in the five years of Ryzen processors, the new generation of chips will require a new processor socket - Socket AM5. It uses the LGA format and has 1,718 pins. In other words, Ryzen 7000 will be equipped with pin pads instead of legs, and the process of their installation on the motherboard will be similar to the installation of processors Intel. Additionally it should be noted that current CPU coolers, designed for current Socket AM4, will be compatible to new Socket AM5. It is confirmed by AMD itself.

New boards for Ryzen 7000 processors will be based on fresh chipsets. Junior models will be based on B650 chipset, mid-range boards will use X670 chipset. And the flagship models will receive a chipset X670E, which is a set of two chipset B650. One of the key features of new AMD platform will be support for DDR5 memory, as well as PCIe 5.0 interface for M.2 SSD and discrete graphics.
