Intel Core i9-12900KS is faster than Apple M1 Max

Intel announced the Core i9-12900KS processor at CES 2022. The manufacturer claimed that the new processor was faster than the Apple M1 Max of the new MacBook Pro. As it turns out, early Geekbench 5 results confirm that claim.Intel Core i9-12900KS is faster than Apple M1 Max.

According to Geekbench 5 testing, the MSI GE76 Raider laptop powered by the Intel Core i9-12900HK averaged 12,707 points in multi-core testing, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip scored 12,244 points. So the Intel processor is 4 percent faster than the M1 Max in this particular comparison.

Nevertheless, during testing, PCWorld journalists found that the Core i9-12900HK's power consumption was in the 100W range and even briefly reached 140W. By comparison, running the same Cinebench R23 test on a 16-inch MacBook Pro, the TDP of the M1 Max chip is around 40W.

Since the Intel Core i9-12900HK consumes much more power, the battery life of the new MSI GE76 Raider reaches six hours in video playback mode. At the same time, the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro provides up to 21 hours of battery life for video playback. Even with possible differences in display brightness and other factors, the 16-inch MacBook Pro lasts much longer.
